Family Based Care Specialist (22821)

This position works within the realm of the Specialized Family Care (SFC). The primary purpose of this position is to recruit, train, and maintain a network of homes that provide foster housing and care to adults and children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Specifically, the incumbent conducts regional recruitment activities to increase the number of SFC provider homes available, coordinates specialized training for SFC home providers, conducts regular inspections of the home and certifies that the home meets standards of health and safety for the persons that are or may be placed there. The employee provides technical, resource, and referral support to provider/foster families, organizations, and communities relating to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities placed within SFC provider homes. The employee also serves as a support/service contact relative to the position field of expertise.

Parent Network Specialists (22718)

The purpose of this position is to provide resources and support to improve the quality of life for families and children enrolled in the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) program through the WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR). Children who qualify include children with complex medical conditions and/or children in foster care. We will hire in 3 separate counties of Wood, Logan and Monongalia.

Mobile App Developer Contracted Position

The WVU CED is looking for a strong mobile app developer who welcomes both engineering and maintenance tasks. This individual must have extensive knowledge about the whole mobile app development process from the first line of code to publishing in the store(s). The primary focus will be to implement new user interfaces and features together with automated unit and integration tests.

You will be working with our Country Roads coordinating team, where your knowledge and advice about application architecture and the newest mobile technologies will be highly appreciated. The code you write will need to be cleanly organized and of the highest quality. You’ll also help ensure solid application performance and an excellent user experience. Therefore, the applications must be ADA accessible and streamlined.

  • Developing new features and user interfaces from wireframe models
  • Ensuring the best performance and user experience of the application
  • Fixing bugs and performance problems
  • Writing clean, readable, and testable code
  • Cooperating with back-end developers, designers, and the rest of the team to deliver well-architected and high-quality solutions

(Hybrid) Temporary Part-time Parent to Parent Training Coordinator (22917)

The Family-to-Family Health Information Center helps families of children and youth with special health care needs, and the professionals who serve them to navigate complex health care systems. In this role you will primarily support parents, youth, caregivers and families with children with special healthcare needs to grow their knowledge, skills and support systems. To accomplish this, you will implement the national Parent to Parent USA peer support model for families of individuals with disabilities and special health care needs. The coordinator will also develop and organize a Family Training Series to improve access to health information, community supports, family leadership and advocacy, medical homes, family-centered care, and other important information.

Positive Behavior/Mental Health Specialist and Client Educator (23003)

As a Positive Behavior/Mental Health Specialist and Client Educator, you will 1) provide individual in-home behavioral therapy services to individuals and families with serious challenging behaviors to reduce the risk of out of home placement, 2) educate and build comprehensive educational platforms for community health providers in trauma informed positive behavior therapy to decrease challenging behaviors and improve quality of life and build capacity throughout West Virginia regarding positive behavior therapy techniques, and 3) coordinate case management to the highest risk youth for out of home placement in WV.

Health Care Patient Navigator (23292)

As a Health Care Patient Navigator, you will provide multi-generational rural care coordination to medical and behavioral health, social services, substance use treatment providers, peer recovery coaching, education and employment options, childcare, and financial management to families that include pregnant and postpartum women who are using or have used substances and/or are experiencing behavioral health needs. Patient Navigators will individualize their communication strategies for each client to meet their needs including in person, phone, text, or other ways requested by the client. Enrolled patients who have identified needs in one or more of these areas will receive coordination services to link them to providers of those services in their region. You will interact with patients from a variety of clinical and medical facilities within the WVU system and facilitate patient connection with provider of needed service and will follow-up with the patient after initial referral is made to see whether services were received.

Faculty Positions

Assistant Professor - School of Medicine Professional Programs/Department of Disability Studies (22488)

The School of Medicine Professional Programs and the Department of Disability Studies is seeking candidates for an full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position. The successful candidate will work within the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities (WVU CED), which has provided evidence-based services, training, innovative research, and the latest national and international information to individuals with disabilities, their families and providers, and our West Virginian communities for more than 45 years. These services are provided by a team of experts representing all abilities, experiences, and backgrounds located throughout the state. The successful candidate will contribute to the center research mission.

Student Employment Opportunities

LEND Traineeships

Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) programs prepare trainees to be leaders in the field of disabilities. WV LEND is a nine-month long (300 total hours) training program.

LEND provides opportunities for graduate students to:

  • Become leaders in the fields of disability education, research, advocacy and policy
  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams
  • Increase rural community cultural competency
