Mind the Gap: Parent Education & Support Group announces new virtual registration and meetings

The free virtual support group offers guidance and support for families with a child on a waitlist for autism services.

The Mind the Gap: Parent Education & Support Group has announced a new round of upcoming monthly meetings to offer guidance and support to families with a child on a waitlist for autism evaluations or services and/or those who are concerned their child is showing symptoms of autism spectrum disorder.

Meetings are held virtually on the first Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. EST. Registration is free, but required.

Upcoming meetings and topics:

February 5, 2025
Participants will:

  1. Engage with a mother with lived experience and autism.
  2. Discuss tips and tricks for navigating the system of care and processes.

  3. Understand different supports available in the community.

March 5, 2025
Participants will:

  1. Understand strategies to improve skills at home.
  2. Discuss activities, toys, games and books that support different developmental activities.
  3. Understand key milestones for development.

April 2, 2025
Participants will:

  1. Understand neurodiversity and concepts related to the neurodiverse community.
  2. Discuss advocacy strategies to support neurodiversity.
  3. Learn the value of neurodiverse societal views.

May 7, 2025
Participants will:

  1. Recognize the need for safety strategies for their child with autism.
  2. Understand strategies for safety for children with autism.
  3. Discuss safety needs specific to children with autism.

June 4, 2025
Participants will:

  1. Discuss unique situations when parenting a teen with autism.
  2. Learn strategies to support their teen with autism.
  3. Discuss the transition from pediatric care to adult care.
